Golfer makes two holes-in-one during round.

Friday, 19 June 2009

A golfer beat odds of 67 million to one when he scored two holes-in-one in the same round.

Monaghan golfer Tommy Doherty, who plays off a handicap of 18, was stunned and delighted when he holed out in a single shot at the par-three fourth and par-three sixth holes at the Nuremore Golf Club in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan.

Unfortunately, the achievement came in a friendly round with playing partner Mal McLeod from Dublin, so it didn't count towards a competition score.

The excitement of the round started when Tommy (28) struck a six-iron tee shot at the 139-metre fourth hole. The ball bounced three times and then dropped into the cup.

"The first one was amazing, but nothing prepared us for what was to follow," said Tommy.

At the sixth hole, Tommy stepped up and struck the ball with a five wood towards the pin 169m away. It bounced on the green and rolled uphill past the pin, stopped, and then started to roll backwards. Then it disappeared.

Both players made for the green and Mal walked over to the pin.

"Mal looked into the hole and then he just put his head in his hands. He said: 'I don't believe it. You've holed it again, Tommy. You've got a second hole-in-one'," said Tommy. "I just could not believe it."

It happened last year at Castlereagh Hills GC on one of their Saturday Competitions.
