McDowell's journey from hot prospect to Major champion

2002

Graeme McDowell turns professional and wins the Scandinavian Masters in his only his fourth tournament on the European Tour. He duly acquires a tag as one of golf’s hot prospects.

2004

McDowell wins a second tournament, the Italia Open, but he will fail to win another for four years.

2005

Plays in his first three majors, but misses the cut in all of them. Managed two top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour, including tied second place at the Bay Hill Invitational

2006

Now playing regular golf on the PGA Tour, the man from Portrush fails to make the top 150 of the PGA money list and returns to the European Tour.

2008

Finally breaks his bad run and wins the Ballantine’s Open in South Korea which he followed with a win at the Barclays Scottish Open in July. He makes his Ryder Cup debut, losing only one of his four ties.

2009

Helps Great Britain and Ireland defeat Continental Europe in the Vivendi Trophy though finished second alongside Rory McIlroy for Ireland in the World Cup.

2010

Wins the Welsh Open at Celtic Manor, and just two weeks later he wins the US Open at Pebble Beach, the first European to do so for 40 years.
