Harrington and McDowell crash out
Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell were knocked out at the halfway stage of the FedEx Cup play-offs after poor showings at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Harrington was nowhere near making it into the top 70 who advance to the third leg in Chicago in a fortnight after a closing 75 that did not contain a single birdie.
McDowell, meanwhile, paid a huge price for bogeying the 17th and missing a six-foot birdie putt on the last for a 71.
American Webb Simpson beat compatriot Chez Reavie in the second hold of a play-off to win the event in Boston after the challenge of world number one Luke Donald subsided.
