Banbridge's Rory Leonard heads to the West of Ireland Amateur Championship at Rosses Point this week in fine form.
He beat a strong field to win the Lee Valley Scratch Cup in Co Cork at the weekend.
Leonard’s second round of 65 put him into a commanding position and he held off Paul Dunne, Dara Lernihan, Joe Lyons, Tom Cleary and Andrew Hogan to come home with a closing 72 to win by three shots.
The qualifying rounds of the West of Ireland get under way in Co Sligo on Friday when Portstewart’s Paul Cutler will be one of the favourites.
Meanwhile, Ulster golfers had to play second fiddle to Maria Dunne from Skerries as she won the Royal County Down Ladies scratch salver at the weekend.
Dunne held off a strong challenge from Malone’s Louise Coffey, eventually winning on a better back nine as the pair couldn’t be separated over the two rounds.
Bangor’s Victoria Bradshaw finished third.
