McIlroy agony after near miss
Holywood superstar Rory McIlroy just fell short of producing a remarkable comeback performance to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, Orlando last night.
Having been four over during the second round on Friday and five shots off the lead at the start of the final day, McIlroy was in outstanding form yesterday, recording seven birdies, to take a share of the lead on 10 under after 16 holes.
However, a bogey on 18, when he three-putted, dropped him back into joint fourth place.
Australia's Marc Leishman sunk an incredible eagle on the 16th and parred the final two holes to win the tournament by one on 11 under.
McIlroy will have the consolation of moving to second in the world rankings when they are updated today, while Leishman's victory secures his place in the Masters.
