McIlroy is hot ticket in US

Published 12/03/2009

It has taken just a fortnight for Rory McIlroy to establish his credentials in the States.

The Holywood teenager was startled to be handed a large envelope as he completed a practice round at this week’s World Golf Championship at Doral’s Blue Monster course.

Inside was an invitation to play in the Crowne Plaza Invitational in Fortworth, Texas at the end of May.

Just a month ago, before he made his professional debut in America, McIlroy’s manager Chubby Chandler had a request for an invitation to play in the Northern Trust Open in California turned down.

Despite the polite request McIlroy (left) will probably turn it down in order to play the European Open at the London Club that week. After all, he politely refused an invitation from none other than Tiger Woods to play that event last year.
