Rory McIlroy said he was "pretty pleased" with his ceremonial first pitch before the San Francisco Giants' Major League Baseball contest against the Houston Astros.

The 23-year-old Northern Irishman was invited to throw ahead of Tuesday night's game at AT&T Park.

"I didn't get any boos, so I've got to be fairly happy with that," said McIlroy, who launches his US Open title defence on Thursday.

"It's a great honour and not something that comes your way every day. I was pretty nervous beforehand, but somehow I managed to get the throw away okay."
