Michael O'Neill looks to Rory McIlroy for inspiration

By Steven Beacom

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill is planning another master-stroke to inspire his players ahead of the Euro 2016 finals by arranging a get together with golfing superstar Rory McIlroy.

O'Neill has previously invited World champion boxer Carl Frampton and Snow Patrol front man Gary Lightbody into Northern Ireland camps with the special guests and the players enjoying the experience.

The Northern Ireland squad are based at Carton House, Maynooth from tomorrow for their Euro preparations and with McIlroy playing the Irish Open at the K Club over the weekend, it is understood a meeting with the four-time Major winner is being scheduled for Monday.

McIlroy, who is seven-under and one shot behind leaders Danny Willett and Marc Warren at the halfway stage of the Irish Open, cheered on Ulster last night in their PRO12 semi-final victory over Leinster in Dublin.
