Brolly good show as golfing celebs battle at wet Galgorm

By Staff Reporter

For some the Northern Ireland Open is a chance to see the pros compete for one of the most prestigious events on the European Challenge Tour.

But for yesterday's celebrity amateurs at Galgorm Castle, it was a great chance to get one over on old team-mates.

Former Ulster Rugby stars Paddy Wallace and Stephen Ferris teed off in the wet, as did former Northern Ireland internationals David Healy and Keith Gillespie. They were joined by recently crowned US Kids Golf World Champion Tom McKibben (12) from Newtownabbey.

The stage is now set for the annual €170,000 NI Open from August 6-9, when the stars of Europe will try to follow in the footsteps of Sweden's Joakim Lagergren, who won last year.
