Tiger at 'full-bore' with Obama
Thursday, 5 February 2009
Tiger Woods revealed last night that he is back to swinging the club at “full-bore” and also gave out the name of a surprise playing partner who could be helping him get back to full match-fitness in the forthcoming weeks.
President Obama may even regard it as good practice before he tries to put America back on its feet.
Talking publicly for the first time this year, Woods described how close he is to returning to competition following the reconstructive surgery to his left knee after winning last June’s US Open. “I did some work with Hank Haney for a few days last week and it's all good,“ said the world No 1. “I'm full-bore with my practice sessions and have no restrictions; it's just a matter of getting my golf endurance up. I don't have my golf stamina back yet.”
Woods would not divulge when and where he will make his long-awaited comeback - the fact that his wife, Elin, is due to have their second child this month is also a major factor in his plans - but he did disclose the identity of his newest golf buddy. Woods spoke at President Obama’s inauguration last month and took the chance to arrange a two-ball.
“The President was very busy, so we didn't get to talk much,“ said Woods. “But I did ask him if he wanted to play golf and he said, 'I'd love to.' So we'll make it happen.”
