Walsh dream team off to Algarve

Husband and wife team David and Vivienne Walsh will represent Northern Ireland at the Algarve Trophy finals at the end of the year.

The pair won the Ulster heat of the mixed foursomes event staged at Lisburn golf club on Sunday.

They amassed an impressive 38 points, with 20 on the back nine, to win by just half a point from Roy and Janice Wallace, who are also members at Lisburn.

David and Vivienne will compete against pairs from the rest of the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany and Spain at the finals which are being run by the Algarve Promotion Bureau.

This is the second year of the competition which the organisers hope to turn into an annual event. A spokesman said: “All the heat winners will enjoy three nights accommodation, two rounds of golf and a prize presentation dinner in the Algarve.

“It’s truly an international final with the UK and Ireland winners joined by the best teams from right around the rest of Europe.”
