Hockey: Victoria puts her money up front

By Ruth Gorman

Sometimes mixing business with pleasure can be a good thing.

That's certainly the case for UUJ Ladies Hockey Club as first XI player Victoria Pinkerton Murray and her husband Stephen Murray have joined forces to become joint sponsors of the club.

The husband and wife duo hope to support the club for years to come and each of their respective business logos will appear on the shirts.

Stephen is already into the second of a three-year deal with the Newtownabbey club as their official shirt sponsor.

His logo appears on the girl's home shirts and now Victoria's logo is on the front of the away shirts.

The centre-forward has also equipped each member of the club out with their very own Pinkerton Murray golf umbrella.

Stephen owns a very successful Murray Plastering and Building company which was established in 1997.

Victoria, meanwhile, owns an Estate Agency, Pinkerton Murray Sales Letting and Property Management.

The agency covers the Bangor and greater Belfast area and is the only agency accredited to The National Approved Letting Scheme within the Bangor and North Down areas.

Sponsorship aside, UUJ realise Victoria is an invaluable member of the squad.

The 26 year old forward has been the club's top goalscorer for two years in a row and this season she has already notched up an impressive eight goals.

Coach Ricky Lee is delighted to have her on board: "Finding sponsorship for sport is becoming increasingly harder so it is obviously fantastic that Stephen and Victoria are backing the hockey club in this way."
