Hockey: Irish off to a flier in Celtic Cup campaign

Published 03/07/2010

Ireland made a winning start to their Junior Celtic Cup bid in Cookstown last night with a 4-1 victory over Wales.

Leinster skipper Anna O’Flanagan did much of the damage in a one-sided fixture, helping the Irish establish a 2-1 half-time lead with both the goals.

Pegasus midfielder Katie McConnell was on target after the break.

The other goal was scored by Kate McKenna.

Today’s Irish opponents France beat Scotland 2-0.

Meanwhile, Emily Hurtz struck the only goal for the second game running as Ireland were denied a famous draw against Australia just two minutes from time at Belfield last night.
