Ireland draw series as Spain battle back with second win
Two defensive lapses proved costly as Spain came from behind to defeat Ireland 2-1 at Jordanstown and level the four-match series.
Having taken the lead slightly against the run of play, the hosts squandered possession on two occasions in the second half and the Spanish took full advantage to snatch their second consecutive victory.
After a scoreless first quarter, Hanna Matthews broke the deadlock in the 24th minute when she volleyed home after Megan Frazer's penalty corner had been deflected into her path.
Four minutes after the restart, Ireland fluffed their lines in the circle allowing Alicia Magaz to score the equaliser from close-range and, with 14 minutes left, Berta Bonastre made it 2-1 after another defensive error.
Ireland replaced Ulster goalkeeper Ayeisha McFerran with five minutes remaining in order to have an extra outfield player but the move failed to produce an equaliser.
