The Rio Olympics hockey schedule has been released and the Irish men now know exactly what lies ahead of them in just over three months' time.

Craig Fulton's lads begin their programme against World No 7 India on August 6 followed by Netherlands (No 2) the next day.

Then comes current Olympic champions Germany on August 9, Canada (14) on August 11 and Argentina (6) on August 12.

"We are very happy with the times and days," said coach Fulton. "We play five pool games in the first seven days, but will be ready for that challenge."

Great Britain, who have Ulstermen Iain Lewers, Mark Gleghorne, David Ames and Ian Sloan in their training panel, face Belgium (5), New Zealand (8), Brazil (32), Australia (1) and Spain (11) .

Meanwhile Newry have retained their Ulster Premier League status by beating Queen's 6-1 in the Promotion/Relegation play-off at Lisnagarvey last night.

John Taylor (2), David Andrews, Kyle McCombe, Colin McKnight and Robbie Irwin scored Newry's goals.
