Irish throw hockey win away

Ireland 'A' had to settle for a 2-2 draw in the second of two games against the Canada senior team in Dublin yesterday despite dominating the majority of the match.

Ireland went in front in the 20th minute when Chloe Watkins set up Cliodhna Sargent for the opener from a penalty corner.

Nine minutes later a cross was fired in from the left hand side and Nikki Evans's deflection beat the Canadian keeper.

Despite looking more dangerous on the attack and winning two more penalty corners Ireland were unable to get the goal which would have killed the game off in the second half.

With just six minutes to go a defensive error in the circle saw Ireland lose possession and Canada pulled one back when they scored from close range and four minutes later they scored a penalty.
