Katherine Hill has a knack of scoring important goals as she proved when she hit the winner for Regent House in their Belfast Telegraph Senior Cup final triumph last March.

At the weekend, she did it again, this time for North Down who were one of three teams promoted from Senior One last season.

The Comber side recovered from an opening 5-0 Denman Ulster Shield defeat by Lurgan to defeat Portadown 2-1 at Edenvilla Park.

Katherine hit the second goal after Olivia Brown's opener as North Down raced into an early 2-0 lead before Esther Dickson reduced the deficit to set up a grandstand finish.

But Laura Clarke's side held on to secure their first win as a Premier League club for more than a decade.

"The girls showed a lot of character to bounce back and Katherine's goal was a great solo effort," said the North Down skipper.

"They came flying out of the blocks at the start of the second half but we weathered the storm before they got their goal and then we managed to hold on for the win."

Elsewhere, Sarah McClure hit a hat-trick for Lurgan who crushed the other newly-promoted side, Dungannon, 6-1 at the Royal School and Armagh defeated Ballymoney 3-1 at Ardmore.

Ulster Shield: Pool A: Armagh 3 (C. Warnock, K. Glass, K. McKee) Ballymoney 1 (N. Parke); Pool B: Dungannon 1 (J. Wilson) Lurgan 6 (S. McClure 3, C. McCann 2, E. McStea); Portadown 1 (E. Dickson) North Down 2 (O. Brown, K. Hill); Senior Cup: Pool A: Banbridge 3 Larne 0; Knock 2 Victorians 1; Pool B: Ballyclare 0 Rainey 5; Cookstown 0 Raphoe 3.
