Larmour delivers for Quins but relegation cloud still lingers
Katie Larmour slept well on Saturday night after helping Belfast Harlequins secure a point from a 2-2 draw with Pegasus in a thrilling EY Irish Hockey League encounter at Shaw's Bridge.
The teenager stepped off a plane from America shortly before the game after flying back for a mid-term break from her hockey scholarship in New York.
However, while Katie's team would have gladly settled for a draw before the game, they now have a real battle on their hands to avoid a relegation play-off after fellow strugglers Pebroke beat Ards 1-0 later in the day.
The Dublin side will be expected to defeat Ulster Elks in the last game of the regulation season and if they do that and Quins fail to pick up anything from their remaining games with UCD and Loreto, Katie's side will be in the play-off.
"It feels like we took one step forward and one straight back again but it's still in the girls' hands," she said.
"However, even though I didn't sleep on the plane on the way home I thoroughly enjoyed the game."
Saturday's results mean Pegasus will, almost certainly, miss out on the top-four, Ards have no chance of making it and the Elks - 6-1 losers to Hermes - are favourites for automatic relegation.
In the Ulster Premier League, Ballymoney stay top after a late winner from Susie Brown gave them a 2-1 victory at Lisnagarvey.
