Olympic-sized Test lies in wait for ambitious Ireland hockey stars
Ulsterman John Jackson has already scooped two gold medals this season and now he has set his sights on achieving his ultimate dream - a place at the Rio Olympics.
Jacko captained the Irish men to World League 2 gold in San Diego two months ago and followed it up by scoring for his club team Reading as they won England's National Cup final with a crushing 5-1 success over Surbiton.
And this evening he'll lead out the Irish against Olympic champions Germany in the first of two Tests to help prepare for next month's World League 3 campaign, from which they can qualify for Rio 2016.
Meanwhile, professional services firm EY have announced sponsorship of the new Irish Hockey League.
But no details have been revealed as to how much is being pumped in, or if clubs will benefit financially to cover increased costs.
Finally, Ulster Juniors had a disappointing inter-provincials in Cork, losing 4-2 and 1-0 to eventual winners Leinster and falling 3-2 and drawing 4-4 with Munster.
