The Ireland women's hockey team saved their best to last as they produced their most impressive display to date in Pennsylvania despite a 4-1 defeat to the United States in the final game of the series.

"The matches are exactly what we need in preparation for World League 3 next month. USA are a physical, quick and skilful team who challenged every part of our game," said national coach Darren Smith.

Ards striker Chloe Brown was particularly lively throughout, having a goal disallowed at 1-1 and a penalty corner effort well saved after Megan Frazer had equalized USA's opener in the first quarter.

The Americans broke away to make it 2-1 at half-time and added two more goals after the break to win the series 3-0 and Ireland now head to Toronto for four games against Canada.

FIXTURES: Today: Canada v Ireland (8pm UK time); Tomorrow: Canada v Ireland (8pm).
