Watt’s girls go for a hat-trick

Ulster have a number of injury concerns going into the defence of their senior inter-provincial title in Cork at the weekend.

So the squad initially selected may not be the one that travels as the northern girls bid to make it three in a row under coach Stephen Watt.

The former Banbridge and Mossley boss is aided and abetted by Pegasus captain Arlene Boyles and she believes the pair have a strong squad at their disposal, those injuries permitting.

"Yes it's looking quite good but there will be a number of late decisions as to players' fitness," she said.

Ballymoney provide five players including teenage sensation Megan Frazer, Lauren Barr, Bridget Cleland, Nikki Parke and Susie Martin.

Upfront Diane Topley's goalscoring exploits for Lisnagarvey have been rewarded with a call-up and Armagh's Rachel Mulligan and Randalstown's Katherine Elkin, as well as Parke and Frazer, provide other attacking options.

Ulster open their defence on Friday night when they face their Munster hosts before playing Leinster and Connacht on subsequent days.

Due to the inter-pros there's a reduced number of league fixtures in the top flight, although there’s also a shortened domestic programme tonight and on Friday.
