Giants duo star as GB eye bronze

Thursday, April 17, 2008

Belfast Giants defensive duo Graeme Walton and Leigh Jameson both played key roles as Great Britain won for the first time in their World Championship series.

And the 4-1 victory over Korea puts Paul Thompson's side in with a chance of a medal - although the promotion places into the A Pool look certain to go to Poland and Austria.

Belfast-man Walton was on the ice when two of the GB goals were scored, while Jamieson was there when three went in - although neither man was involved in the moves before scoring.

Dave Clarke had GB in front just 89 seconds into the game and just after the hour mark Newcastle Vipers' former Superleague Player of the Year David Longstaff doubled the lead.

It was 3-0 to Great Britain early in the third period through Danny Meyers before Korea pulled one back through Cho and Ashley Tait completed the comfortable victory with a short handed goal with just over a minute remaining.

GB now face Holland on Friday and Kazakhstan on Saturday with a bronze medal in their sights.
