Belfast Giant Derrick Walser aiming for a fairytale finish

By Stuart McKinley

Derrick Walser is hungry for his Belfast Giants team to claim home-ice advantage in the second leg of their Play-off quarter-final - and avoid a potential logistical nightmare for the club.

The Giants are almost certain to face the Nottingham Panthers in a two-legged battle to make the finals weekend on April 2-3, with the teams currently fourth and fifth in the league respectively.

The higher-placed team will have home advantage in the second leg, but with a Disney On Ice show dictating that the Giants must play their home leg on Monday, March 28 they could have to travel to Nottingham 48 hours later, just three days before the semi-finals at the same venue - leaving travel arrangements for the team completely up in the air.

"We want to get on a winning run now and make sure that we get that home-ice in the Play-offs," said Walser, ahead of tonight and tomorrow's home double-header with the Fife Flyers.

"We're in for a tough match and we want to make sure we are prepared. It's not going to be an easy road, but it's only two games and we have to make sure that we keep our discipline and make sure we're ready to go."
