Goulakos gives Giants the edge with late winner against Bisons
Spiro Goulakos struck the overtime winner to give the Belfast Giants victory in their second pre-season warm-up against the Manitoba Bisons.
The Canadian visitors struck an equaliser in the final minute to force overtime, but they weren't able to complete the job as Goulakos scored his second of the game - and third of the weekend - to give the Giants the win.
After winning 6-4 in Saturday night's first meeting, it was Manitoba who took the early lead and although Colin Shields levelled the visitors finished the first period with a 2-1 lead.
Sebastien Sylvestre, who also scored on Saturday night, levelled things up for the second time, but Manitoba's forwards stepped things up, scoring two goals to take a 4-2 lead at the end of the second period.
The third period belonged to the Giants though as they took control and struck four times to build up a lead.
First it was Steve Saviano who cut the deficit, before Jonathan Ferland equalised.
Shields then netted his second of the game to put the Giants in front for the first time, which had to be confirmed by the SSE Arena's new goal-line technology, before Goulakos got onto the scoresheet for the first time to open up a two-goal lead.
The Bisons weren't finished yet and they quickly pulled one back before that last-gasp leveller a minute from the end.
There was to be no fairytale fightback for the visitors though as Goulakos proved to be the match winner.
