Jonathan Ferland and Sébastien Sylvestre signed by Giants
Vienna Capitals captain Jonathan Ferland is joining the Belfast Giants for the 2017/18 season.
Ferland, a 34-year-old from Quebec, Canada made his NHL debut with Montreal during the 2005/06 season before transferring to the Austrian Hockey League where he stayed for nine straight seasons – first playing with Villacher and later joining the Vienna Capitals – two sides he captained.
Ferland’s Austrian Hockey League totals are 147 goals and 188 assists, good for 335 points in 401 games.
Head Coach Adam Keefe on the signing of Jonathan Ferland: “In Jonathan Ferland the Belfast Giants are bringing in veteran leadership with him having been a Captain everywhere that he has played. He is a winner that will do whatever it takes to bring a trophy back to Belfast.”
“Jonathan is a power forward that will bring size & energy to our lineup who is gifted offensively as well. That is tough to find these days in a player. I am very happy he will be joining us in August.”
Another Quebec native Sébastien Sylvestre is being added to the Belfast Giants roster.
The 23-year-old forward will arrive in Belfast following three straight professional seasons in the ECHL.
“Sébastien is really excited to get across the Atlantic and get started here in Belfast. He is another young, energetic & exciting player to watch with a high end talent,” Keefe said.
“I know our fans will love him as Sébastien isn't afraid to get his nose dirty and drive the net to get the ugly goals as well. I am very happy to add Sly to our Giants family.”
