Nottingham Panthers defenceman Brent Henley has been ruled out of both legs of the Challenge Cup final against the Belfast Giants.

The 33-year-old Canadian has had a three-match ban imposed on him following an incident during Sunday's match with Coventry Blaze, when he was given a match penalty for cross checking.

As well as missing both legs of the final, in Belfast on Friday night followed by the return in Nottingham next Tuesday, Henley will also miss the Elite League game between the teams at the Odyssey on Saturday.

"I have consulted with the matchnight officials, read their reports and reviewed the incident," said Elite League Head of Discipline Moray Hanson.

"I have taken into consideration the fact that Henley came off the bench, travelled a considerable distance, cross checked the opposing player in the back with force."

Meanwhile, Belfast Giants forward Kevin Saurette is in the running to be named Elite League Player of the Year.

The Giants are represented in six of the seven categories, with the winners announced on Sunday April 5.
