Walser happy to wait until the right player is available
Stevie Lyle is likely to be the only new player joining the Belfast Giants after player-coach Derrick Walser scaled down his search for a fresh face.
Great Britain international goaltender Lyle, who previously played for the Giants between 2007 and 2009, has been signed as emergency cover for Stephen Murphy, who is due to become a father in the next few weeks, and he could be in the team that faces Braehead Clan tonight in the Challenge Cup, with a trip to Dundee coming tomorrow night.
Walser, who had been looking for a new defenceman after being gripped by injuries and suspensions a couple of weeks ago, has scaled down his search because he hasn't spotted any obvious weaknesses in his table-topping line up.
"We looked at several guys, but we didn't want to jump at any of them," said Walser.
"It's not about just getting a body in, we wanted someone who could come in and make the team better. We haven't played enough games with a full roster for me to truly evaluate where we may be lacking.
"I have an idea of what I think we might need, but until I am sure I won't move and I haven't seen anything on the market that might add anything either."
The Giants were boosted by the return of Johan Ejdepalm last weekend.
