James Desmarais scored the overtime winner as Belfast Giants joined Cardiff Devils at the top of the Elite League standings with a 4-3 victory at the SSE Arena.

Jake Morissette opened the scoring for the visitors 2:19 into the contest but Brandon Benedict soon had the Giants level.

Joey Martin's powerplay goal for Cardiff was cancelled out by Colin Shields and Brent Walton put the Devils ahead for the third time before Mike Forney again tied it to send the game to overtime.

And with just 18 seconds remaining in the extra session Desmarais scored to claim the extra point.
