Miika Wiikman stands firm as Nottingham Panthers shut out Cardiff Devils

Miika Wiikman posted a 29-save shut-out as Challenge Cup holders Nottingham Panthers claimed a 2-0 victory over Cardiff Devils at the National Ice Centre.

In a game which also counted for Elite League points, Panthers, who beat Devils 1-0 after overtime in last season's final, took a first-period lead through Chris Lawrence.

David Clarke wrapped up the win with an empty-net marker 30 seconds from time after Devils had pulled Ben Bowns.

Also in the cup, Mathieu Roy hit the game-winning goal as Sheffield Steelers held off a Coventry Blaze fightback to prevail 4-3 at the Skydome.

Mike Forney scored twice as Belfast Giants beat Edinburgh Capitals 3-1 at the SSE Arena and three final-period markers helped Dundee Stars to a 6-3 win at Fife Flyers.

In the other Elite League game, player of the week Darian Dziurzynsk grabbed both goals as Manchester Storm edged past Braehead Clan 2-1 in Glasgow after Matt Keith's go-ahead strike.
