Gibson off to winning MX1 start

Gary Gibson emerged the overall winner after the opening round of the Norman Watt Ulster Premier motocross series at Desertmartin yesterday.

In the combined MX1 and MX2 race one Wayne Garrett riding the JAR by IFS Honda led the way, in close company with Irish championship leader Gibson on the Bannside Suzuki.

However Garrett experienced shock problems that dropped him down the field to finish sixth as Gibson went on to win from leading MX2 rider Ed Allingham, Scotland's Tom Kelly and John Meara.

Race two was another close affair between Gibson and Garrett with Crossgar pilot Gibson continuing his terrific start to 2013 once again taking the chequered flag in first position with Garrett in second and Bird third.

The best action was left for the final race when a slip firstly by Bird and then Gibson allowed Garrett through for a well earned victory from Gibson and Meara, the top three in the MX1 championship.

In MX2 the order is Allingham, Kelly and Glenn McCormick.
