Kirkistown meeting is left out in the cold

A combination of low entries and worries about the current weather situation have led to the cancellation of Monday’s scheduled car race meeting at Kirkistown.

The event organisers, the 500 Motor Racing Club of Ireland, who also own the Co Down track, have successfully run ‘Christmas’ car race meetings in the past, but in recent years entry levels have dropped.

“The current financial situation certainly didn’t help this time,” a club spokesman said.

“The uncertain weather picture certainly put a number of racers off too. A warm fireside and a few mince pies certainly look a lot more inviting than any race track when the weather is like this!

“We will now concentrate on our busy 2010 calendar which begins with a winter series kart race on January 9 followed, a week later, by the New Year Stages Rally.”
