Election put in shade as Stormont revs up

While ‘first past the post’ is a phrase often uttered around the hallowed halls of Stormont, power of a different kind took centre stage last night.

Sports Minister Nelson McCausland in conjunction with the Department of Culture, Arts & Leisure hosted last night’s final press call for the Relentless International North West 200 in association with Black Horse at Parliament Buildings.

Newcomer to the event, Gary Mason of MSS Colchester Kawasaki and four-time winner John McGuinness were the guests of honour, on a night when Mervyn Whyte and his team also launched this year’s official NW200 programme.

For the ninth year in succession local company, Careva Publishing, has produced the official 100-page glossy publication.

It contains all the up-to-date race information including the six-race line-up and in-depth features on all the leading riders.

There are also articles on Brian Reid, Woolsey Coulter and Ralph Bryans and a detailed lap of the circuit with current lap record holder Steve Plater.

Programmes will also be available to purchase from Tesco stores and petrol stations across the ‘Triangle’ region.

There will also be a new Park & Ride facility in a bid to decrease traffic on the roads and help spectators access the event.

The new facility is situated off the Ballybogey Road outside Ballymoney, and will provide a 10 minute shuttle service for spectators to lower Ballywillan Road (one minute from Metropole Corner).

The location was decided upon due to the short distance to the track, instant access to the new Continental Market, a welcome addition to the Race Week Festival programme, and the option to stroll to the Start/Finish line and Paddock.
