US ace Moore to jet in for North West 200

Jimmy Moore will add to the global appeal of the North West 200 this year

The latest addition to the star-studded line-up for the Relentless North-West 200, in association with Blackhorse, is American Jimmy Moore, who will ride an ex-Karl Harris Yamaha for East Coast Racing in the Superstock and Superbike races.

Moore raced at the North West last year for the JMF Millsport Yamaha Team securing top 20 finishes, and for the Blackhorse Finance Team in 2007 again achieving top 20 results in both the Supersport and Superbike races.

Moore has been a regular at the Isle of Man TT races in the last few years and has a sound American Motorcycle Association racing background, winning the Supersport and Superstock championships in 2001 and 2002.

Courtesy of Tourism Ireland, Moore will join multi-North West 200 winners Steve Plater, John McGuinness, Michael Rutter, Bruce Anstey and local aces Ryan Farquhar, Alastair Seeley and the Dunlop brothers William and Michael for what should be a feast of high-quality racing.

Aubrey Irwin from Tourism Ireland said: “We are delighted to see the global appeal of the North West 200 expanding to one of our biggest markets the USA.

“It is a pleasure to work with Mervyn Whyte and his experienced team to ensure that that global trend continues.”

Clerk of the Course Whyte hailed Tourism Ireland for helping to add a more global appeal to the event: “It is thanks to Tourism Ireland that we are in a position to stretch our net far and wide to bring top-class competitors from around the world to compete at the Relentless North-West 200 in association with Blackhorse.”

Whyte also paid tribute to regional partner Coleraine Borough Council who, in addition to managing the Race Week Festival events, have provided additional support to the NW200 by seconding events co- ordinator Paul Gallagher to help with activities in the run up to Race Day.

Outlining their contribution to the NW 200, Mayor of Coleraine, Cllr Sandy Gilkinson, said: “The North-West 200 has grown from being a purely motorbike enthusiast attraction to a family orientated festival.

“Since 2001 Coleraine Borough Council has funded and organised family entertainment in Portstewart and Portrush during Race Week in recognition of the importance of the event and in a bid to attract even more visitors to the Borough.

“This year Race Week Festival starts on Saturday, May 8 and runs through to Sunday, May 16 and includes exciting free of charge events such as a Freestyle Motocross Stunt show, top UK superbike stunt performers, comedy clown acts, children’s entertainers and the ever popular Fireworks Show featuring U2 tribute band Elevation.”

Race Day hospitality packages are available at £175 + vat per person.
