Rally NI: Typical French flash and flair from Citroen
The shape of things to come from World champions Citroen will be on display in this weekend’s Rally NI.
The Citroen DS3 R3, a 1.6 litre turbo-engined, front-wheel-drive, clubman’s specification car on which their new WRC machine will be based, makes its public bow in the hands of development driver Bryan Bouffier.
It was put through its paces on a test stage at Cooley Mountain earlier this week where members of the Citroen Racing team who have accompanied the car to Ulster admitted they were facing “a baptism of fire”.
But they have high hopes with Jean-François Liénéré, Citroen’s customer competition boss, saying he hopes to see the DS3 finishing in the top five although the main objective is to test the car in live competition for the first time.
“We have been very pleased with our progress in testing but nothing replicates real competition and this rally is a very tricky event where competitors have to deal with narrow, bumpy roads that offer little grip — and very variable weather,” he said.
“The ideal result for us would be to win Group R3 and finish in the top five overall.”
