Colin Turkington is to return for the British rounds of the World Touring Car Championship at Donington Park next week.

The Portadown driver, a former British champion and WTCC race winner, will join the German Wiechers-Sport BMW team, replacing Italian Stefano D'Aste who is unavailable.

Turkington, currently racing for the Flash Engineering team in the Scandinavian touring car series, is delighted to be back at one of his favourite circuits.

“Donington is a great circuit and I’ve raced there many times in a BMW but this will be my first experience with the new generation 1.6 turbo engine,” he said.

“I'm really looking forward to seeing how it performs and racing in front of the British fans again.”

Wiechers-Sport team manager Dominik Greiner said: “Colin knows the track very well and I'm confident that with him we can continue on our positive upward trend that began last week in Porto with Stefano D'Aste leading a WTCC race for the first time in the team's history.”

Turkington is no stranger to the WTCC and scored four podium finishes in 10 races in 2010, including his first victory in Japan.
