Turkington's star on the rise with award a silver lining
Colin Turkington may not have regained the British Touring Car title he won in 2009 and '14 but he didn't finish the season empty handed.
He was awarded the prestigious British Racing Drivers' Club Silver Star as the top national driver in 2016, the second time he has won the award, and was also shortlisted for the British Driver of the Year which, last week, went to Lewis Hamilton.
The Silver Star was some consolation at the end of a season in which his BMR team made a late decision to switch from their 2015 Volkswagens to totally untried Subaru Levorgs and, consequently, struggled in the early part of the year.
Turkington said: "The decision came late and it meant we were on the back foot."
The Portadown driver says it is too early to know what 2017 will bring or if, indeed, he will be staying at BMR.
But given the progress he and the team made it seems likely he will be campaigning the Subaru again next year.
