Ulster Rally star leads Monte Carlo

Bryan Bouffier, the French champion who made such an impact on last year’s Ulster International, led the Monte Carlo Rally into the final Alpine stages last night.

Bouffier had a 40 second lead over veteran fellow Peugeot driver Francois Delecour and was 51 seconds ahead of the leading Skoda of Belgian Freddy Loix after a dramatic third leg when a sudden snowfall turned the rally on its head.

Bouffier — entrusted with the world debut of Citroen’s new DS3 on the Ulster Rally last August, finishing fifth — was in seventh with Delecour eighth when the snow came and they then jumped to first and second.

Leader Juho Hanninen (Skoda) and second placed Petter Solberg (Peugeot) went sliding down to sixth and seventh.
