World Championship Rally: Marty McCormack’s French assault
Marty McCormack is heading back to France and his first World championship rally appearance.
Currently leading the British F2 series, McCormack was runner-up in the French Citroen Trophy last season and wants to put that experience to good use in his WRC debut on Rally France in two weeks time.
“It is all going to be a bit tight because I have the penultimate round of the British championship in Yorkshire on September 24 and Rally France starts six days later but when the chance came up it was too good to miss,” said the 25-year-old from Draperstown.
Now driving a Citroen DS3 for the French Sainteloc team, McCormack became the first driver of a two-wheel-drive car for more than a decade to take maximum points in a British championship round in last month’s Ulster Rally.
“We talked about it when I was in Morzine but in the last week it has all come together and I’m really excited about it,” he said.
“It is the goal of any driver to be competing on the international stage.
“And after the way I have been going in the BRC this year, I would like the opportunity to compare myself with the guys in the 2WD World championship.”
