Eugene Laverty is a wedding crasher during Spain testing

By Paul Lindsay

Toomebridge MotoGP star Eugene Laverty is facing walking down the aisle in plaster after sustaining a broken wrist and dislocated shoulder in a 150kph crash during testing at Jerez in Spain with his Power Electronics Ducati team.

Eugene now faces a race to be recovered enough from his injuries in time to swap his leathers for a morning suit as he weds fiancee Pippa Morson in a glittering ceremony in less than 10 days time.

He will fly from Seville today to Barcelona for specialist surgery.

The Monaco based rider said of the incident: "It was a disappointing end to a good day of testing. We made solid progress with the new electronics and the last exit before I crashed was probably the first time we had the bike working correctly.

"The lap times were getting better and then I crashed, so I'm disappointed. It would have been nice to do another day of testing, but the positive thing is that the bike is working well."
