In Pictures: Thrills and spills at North West 200

Fast speeds and high drama marked today’s historic first daytime practice at the Relentless North West 200.

Lincolnshire rider Guy Martin crashed spectacularly, entering the final bend into the paddock chicane in the opening Superstock qualifying.

Martin was braking down from 120mph to 70mph when he slid off onto the grass on his 1000cc Honda.

Unhurt, he quickly picked himself up but that was the end of his session.

Manx rider Conor Cummins will be in Superstock pole for Saturday’s race after clocking the fastest speed of the opening session at 117.149mph, followed by Ryan Farquhar on 116.452 and Scot Keith Amor on 116.236.
