The Ulster Grand Prix, the world’s fastest road race, can now boast the UK and Ireland’s number one bike insurer as their title sponsor, having secured the services of MCE Insurance for the next three years, with 2016’s event set for August 13.

The high profile, independently owned motorcycle insurance company, which also headlines the British Superbike Championship, has agreed a significant three-year deal to sponsor the event, which will now be known as the MCE Insurance Ulster Grand Prix.

Speaking on behalf of the promoting Dundrod & District Motorcycle Club, Clerk of the Course Noel Johnston said: “We are truly delighted to make this major announcement, which marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Ulster Grand Prix.

“We’ve seen and been impressed by the support MCE Insurance has offered the British Superbike Championship over the past eight years.

“We know they are a company that understands bikes and the mentality of both bikers and bike fans, making it a fantastic fit for us.

“It’s a sponsorship which we believe will allow us to really build our profile as the world’s fastest road race across the United Kingdom, throughout Ireland and beyond.

“To commit to a three-year deal is a clear demonstration of confidence in the strength of our event.

“It goes without saying that there would be no event without the support of our stakeholders, and this is an opportunity for us to thank MCE for getting involved, as well as organisations such as Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Tourism NI and the Ulster Grand Prix Supporters Club.”

The Ulster Grand Prix can only be commended for their forward thinking and contemporary attitude to road racing, and the decision to introduce a superpole qualifying system for the Superbike class in 2016 — which will see the top 1000cc qualifiers compete individually against the clock for one lap to determine grid positions — will provide a great new spectacle for all of the fans who will line the Dundrod circuit.

The key events at the MCE Insurance Ulster Grand Prix are the Dundrod 150 on Thursday August 11 and the main event itself on Saturday, August 13.

Practice sessions will take place on Wednesday, August 10 and the following day with a full programme of entertainment on all nights in the hospitality marquee.
