Knee injury won't put brakes on Rea
Wednesday, 27 June 2007
Ulster's Jonathan Rea intends to ride in the British Superbike championship round at Knockhill, Scotland on Sunday despite the fact that he is suffering from a knee injury which has caused some concern.
Rea was practising on a mountain bike near his home in Larne when he was injured. He said today: "I have seen a physiotherapist and he has advised me to rest the knee. However, I am packing it with ice and I don't see this as a problem regarding my appearing at the weekend.
"I am doing a PR job in Glasgow today and after that I'll move on to Knockhill on Friday. My intention is to grab as many points as possible on Sunday for I am at present in third place in the championship.
"I have gradually cut down the deficit between the leader Riyouchi Kiyonari and myself so that I am only 25 points adrift. I have one at Suzuka in Japan and also last week in the British Championship at Mondello and now I feel I can move closer to the leader and make a real bid for the title.
"I am hopeful that the knee won't cause me any problems but you never know in this game. You have to be positive and that's the way I'm looking at it."
