It was an up and down day for Michael Laverty in the British Superbike
championship and Brands Hatch yesterday.
Laverty started off by crashing on the fourth lap of the opening race but he
bounced back in race two and finished fourth but still keeps him in a
reasonably high place in the British Championship.
Michael Rutter had a similar day to forget about for he crashed on the 14th
lap on the opening race but then took fifth place in the second race.
Rutter will, of course, be one of the big names at the North West 200
practice which begins on Tuesday.
Winner of the first Superbike race was Shane Byrne from Tom Sykes and Carl
Crutchlow. Michael Laverty's brother John finished 16th and third in the
Superbike Cup.
In the second Superbike race Crutchlow was the winner from Byrne and Leon
Camier.
This time John Laverty finished 13th and was first in the Superbike Cup.
The Superstock round was won once again by the consistent Steve Brogan who
is also one of the big names at the North West 200. Brogan has made an
electric start to the season winning every race and it was the same
yesterday.
Marshall Neill was third, Alistair Seeley was fourth and Adrian Coates
finished seventh.
In the Supersport 600 South African rider Hudson Kennath was first, followed
by Glen Richards and that man Brogan in third place.
Of the Ulster riders, DJ Toal was fifth, Marty Nutt eighth and Ian Lowry
16th. Paul Jordan finished third in the 125cc class.
Down at Mondellow it was a day out for Dublin rider Jack Kennedy who won
five races including the Race of the Year.
Kennedy was first in the three 600cc races as well as the Superbike with the
Race of the Year capping his day.
Nigel Percy won three races in the lighter classes.
