Lynch has chance to unleash Impreza
Friday, 4 July 2008
KEVIN Lynch can finally get his season back on track in Sunday's ALMC Rally based at Gormanstown.
The triple Northern Ireland champion will be reunited with his new S12B
Subaru Impreza, a car he has owned since the spring but has driven for less
than a handful of stages.
It suffered engine trouble on the first stage of the first rally he
contested and then his attempts to get competitive mileage in the car ahead
of the international Rally of the Lakes were thwarted by over-subscribed
entry lists on national level events.
So Lynch went to Killarney at the end of April barely knowing the Subaru but
still set top three times on the first two stages before crashing on the
third.
Since then the Impreza has been languishing at Subaru's Prodrive
headquarters in England, the re-build held up by the push to get the new S14
Impreza up and running for an early than expected debut on the Acropolis
Rally.
A disappointed Lynch had to make a last-minute switch to his 05 Ford Focus
for the Donegal International but despite his proclaimed dislike for the
M-Sport car he was in a strong second place behind Eugene Donnelly when the
rally ended.
Now, more than two months after the Killarney crash, the Subaru has been
returned to its base at Harper Motorsport near Lisburn and is ready to roll
on the ALMC Rally where Lynch hopes he will finally get to put it through
its paces.
