Canny Dunlop plays waiting game
Monday, 6 July 2009
Michael Dunlop, Ryan Farquhar and Keith Amor were in blistering form totally dominating Saturday’s Aon bikecare Skerries 100 event.
Dunlop was declared Man of the Meeting after taking three wins and two third places.
Amor had two superbike victories and a third position in the supersport event while Farquhar won the supertwins race, had three second place finishes and set a new outright lap record for the circuit at a speed of 109.521mph.
Speaking after his performances the triumphant 21-year-old Dunlop said: “It was a brilliant day for the boys who support me in my racing.
“Quite a few of them come from the Skerries area and it was good to win for them on their home circuit.
“The 125 and 250cc wins were fairly comfortable, but the supersport 600 win was anything but. Ryan led the first couple of laps before I got to the front and then the race was stopped due to an accident.
“It was restarted and I knew the result was to be on overall time so all I had to do was sit on Ryan’s back wheel and I would win.
“Conditions were not great and although I felt I could pass him I didn’t have to and got the win by two-tenths of a second.
“I couldn’t have asked for more with those three wins for Gary Ryan and Martin Marlow and two thirds on my debut for Uel Duncan on the Robinson Concrete Honda.”
Farquhar wasn’t too disappointed after his day.
“A win and three second places and the lap record was the best I could do and I’ve got to be happy with that, as we are in a really hectic period of racing at the moment,” he said.
“You know Michael, Keith and myself are all riding at the top of our game at the moment and getting a win is not easy.
“We are all either international road race winners or podium finishers, and I’m sure the spectators are enjoying watching our battles in the various races.
“I’m sure we’ll be at it again on Sunday at Walderstown where I hope to get the better of them.”
An elated Amor, bedecked in the Scottish flag ,commented:” I think I’m overdue that grand final win.
“I got the jump on Ryan at the start and managed to keep in front to the chequered flag.
“I knew he was right behind me, so it was a case of no mistakes and the race was mine, as we were lapping within tenths of a second of each other.”
