Colin Turkington wins first World Tour race ... in court

Colin Turkington has been handed his first World Touring Car Championship win before he takes to the track for the final round of the series in Macau on Sunday.

The former British champion from Portadown finished second behind Brazilian Agusto Farfus at Okayama in Japan three weeks ago, but only when the teams arrived in the former Portuguese colony in the Far East for the season finale has a ruling by an FIA court of appeal been revealed.

The court of appeal deemed that the sequential gearboxes fitted to the BMWs of Farfus and Andy Priaulx were illegal and the drivers have been excluded from the results of the two Japanese races.

Turkington’s West Surrey Racing BMW was not involved in the protest by rivals Chevrolet and he has been promoted to first place, his first WTCC win. Despite only contesting eight of the 18 races so far, Turkington moves to ninth place in the standings.

Racing, too, in Macau this weekend is Will Buller who makes his debut for the Fortech team in the feature F3 grand prix.

The 18-year-old from Scarva won the Formula BMW Pacific race there last year.
