Two of the top teams in the Spar Premier league went head to head on Friday night at Lisburn Racquets club. Both former champions Belfast Ladies and Larkfield were also taking part in the Children in Need fund raiser matching money for goals and all the netball clubs raised a handsome total of £1164 in their first involvement in the event.
Charity was set aside when the serious business of securing a victory became uppermost in their minds, and as both were level on points their first clash of the season was crucial. This first encounter finally went to Belfast with former Larkfield centre Sonia Martin (pictured) now sporting the black and white of Belfast Ladies since she moved cities and clubs. Sonia, a physiotherapist at Musgrave Park hospital, was also with the Northern Ireland team in Singapore in September, when they won the bronze medal in the 5 Nations Cup. The final score was 59-38 to her team, and their next important match is against the holders Graduates on November 30th, when they can go to the top of the league.
Results: Graduates 66 Bangor 28, Belfast Ladies 59 Larkfield 38, Graduates 2 36 Belfast Ladies 2 39, Larkfield 2 48 Laganside 47.
