Alan Campbell stands on the cusp of greatness. Tomorrow morning the Coleraine man bids to go through the pain barrier and claim Olympic gold in the single sculls.

Campbell has already made a remarkable recovery from surgery on his knee over the past eight weeks and now he believes he can add the perfect finish by claiming gold.

“I’m ecstatic that I’m in the final and I back myself against anyone in going for gold.

“The goal was to make it through to the final and I’ve done that.

“Now I’ll give it everything and I hope that I do Northern Ireland proud.

“I want everyone to get up and watch me go for gold.

“This is going to be the biggest race of my life.”

All the best from your neighbours in Castlewood Avenue, Coleriane.
