Four Western protestors arrested in Beijing

Published 06/08/2008

The Chinese authorities have arrested four Western students who mounted a pro-Tibet demonstration in Beijing today.

Two Americans and two Britons from the group Students for a Free Tibet unfurled banners near the stadium where the Olympics are due to be held over the coming weeks.

The protest was mounted just hours before the Olympic torch was due to arrive in Tiananmen Square and two days before the opening ceremony for the Games.
