Games were 'absolutely fabulous'
The London Games have been hailed as absolutely fabulous by the president of the International Olympic Committee.
Jacques Rogge said he was very happy with the event and very grateful to the organisers for their efforts.
But the IOC chief declined to compare London with other previous host cities, insisting such an exercise would be unfair.
"I am a very happy and grateful man," he said.
"I am very happy with the Games."
Dr Rogge said he would deliver his final assessment of the Olympics at the closing ceremony.
He said perfection was impossible so there were some minor issues Rio could look to improve on in 2016.
"Here and there things can be improved," he said.
"No one will pretend there is perfection in this world. I think the Games were absolutely fabulous but here and there, there are issues we can tell the Brazilians 'be careful for this, be careful for that' - nothing fundamental of course."
He said the British public had been "fantastic and exceptional" in the way they had embraced the event.
